Curriculum

For beginner level students, I use my own altered versions of the pieces from Suzuki book 1. This eliminates the need to buy the physical Suzuki book, which includes many things that can be confusing & unneeded when practicing on your own. With each piece, I play the piano accompaniment with the student when they finish learning it so they have a better understanding of what it is like to perform.

On top of that, I predominantly focus on rhythm training (being able to go double & half speed fluidly with a metronome), as well as ear training (being able to tell if a note is too high or too low). I have created my own music theory infographics as well. These are to help explain how to write whole/half/quarter notes, read different kinds of basic musical notation, and help the student understand which finger to use on each string.

For intermediate-advanced level students, I will be able to meet them where they are at, and construct a plan to get them where they want to be. This may include establishing a new practice routine, trying out new warmups and etudes for technique development, or creating musicality with vibrato & phrasing (how we feel the music).

For all students, I record the summary of each lesson in my notebook. This is mainly to help me keep track of how things are progressing, and plan for future lessons. I also write down homework slips at the end of each lesson, so there are no reasons to forget what to practice! (Trust me, I forget very easily so I highly recommend it)
